About

I am Leyda Almodóvar, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Stonehill College. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I enjoy cooking (and eating!), particularly trying out new cuisines and recipes. I LOVE to travel and make new friends. My hobbies include Zumba, yoga, and watching cooking competition shows.

I recently finished my Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Iowa.  My dissertation was on methods for analyzing brain networks. In particular, I am interested in methods that will help neuroscientists to compare the speed of brain connections between typically developed controls and children with mental disorders. I also completed a Certificate in College Teaching at the University of Iowa. Besides taking several education courses, I did two practica. The first practicum was on Educational Psychology with a professor from the Education department, and the second practicum was on Geometry for Elementary Teachers with a professor from the Mathematics department. My research interests include graph theory, mathematical biology, and topological data analysis.
